A Case Study of ESL Students’ Remote Speaking Class Learning Experiences in a Canada University During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic forced a transfer from face-to-face (F2F) learning to remote online in universities worldwide. A university southern Ontario delivered English courses language learners living globally. This study, adopting photo-production visual method, explored four as second (ESL) students’ perceptions of this compared typical F2F and investigated activities enabling speaking opportunities expectations for learning. results showed that students perceived minor differences between learning, including non-academic environment, sense community, instant communications. process involved interactive collaborative discussions presentations allow opportunities. contributed confidence but lacked adequate feedback towards skills.
